General Description:

The Manufacturing Engineer must be a qualified person who supports existing manufacturing processes as well as develops innovative manufacturing processes for new instruments. The duties of this position will be to improve quality and develop and improve new and existing manufacturing processes. This position reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

Specific Responsibilities:

Provides Manufacturing with processes, tooling, fixtures, assembly aids, etc. to improve quality and manufacturability.
Assumes responsibility for assigned product lines; creates applicable documentation, resolves day-to-day production issues, improves existing processes, etc.
Initiates and sometimes constructs tooling, fixtures, and assembly aids.
Recommends and installs necessary process improvements to reduce manufacturing costs while maintaining and/or increasing the quality and reliability.
Assists Materials Management in technical matters pertaining to supplier evaluation, selection and sharing of manufacturing technology.
Reviews, approves, and implements ECRs and ECOs for new and existing products.
Performs failure analyses of internal and field issues on products.
Assists the Manufacturing Engineering Manager in the design of product line layouts, workstation layouts, equipment and material flow layouts, and stock storage.
Selects and installs new production equipment.
Evaluates newly designed products, customs, and specials with regard to manufacturability.
Oversees the building of production prototypes for new and custom products in the development stages of the projects.
Maintains production equipment and configures it for new products; maintains and upgrades existing test equipment and fixturing.
Performs other tasks as may be assigned by the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

BS degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
Must have ability to troubleshoot analog and digital circuits down to board level.
Experience in printed circuit board assembly manufacturing processes is a must. This will include SMT as well as through-hole.
Ten years of hands-on experience with manufacture of electro-mechanical products. Strong background in electronic and mechanical troubleshooting,
Strong background in electronic test fixture design.
Strong skills in computer software including MS Office (Word, Excel, Access), MCAD and/or ECAD. Experience with HP-VEE and/or Labview is a definite benefit.
Must be able to work in a team environment. Looking for an individual who will go the extra mile to assist co-workers.
Project management skills desired; individual needs to be a self-starter who can take a project and manage it with very little supervision.
Familiarity with international quality standards desirable.
